Al Hussein Technical University Hold Second Phase of MACH1 Drone Racing Competition

[Saturday, April 20, 2024] - Amman - Today, Aerosquad, a student initiative under the Student Affairs Deanship at Al Hussein Technical University (HTU), organized the second phase of the MACH1 Drone Racing Competition at King's Academy. Five teams of university students participated in the event, which was attended by a significant number of academic and administrative staff, university partners, as well as the participating students' families.

The competition involved teams working on designing, programming, and constructing drones to be ready for the race. This phase followed the first stage of the MACH1 competition, which featured a simulated race with ten teams in March 2023. In that phase, each team, comprised of three members, assumed specific roles: Pilot, Technician, and Team Manager, undergoing rigorous training encompassing technical and safety procedures, totaling over 100 hours of preparation.

During the opening ceremony, Dr. Mariam Biltawi, Dean of Student Affairs at the university, highlighted how this event embodies the exceptional skills of HTU's students, along with the university's commitment to fostering innovation and practical learning experiences. She expressed pride in witnessing the dedication, creativity, and ingenuity of the students in this exciting field of technology.

Subsequently, Prof. Ismael Al-Hinti, President of HTU, addressed all the participants, congratulating them on their outstanding performance in the MACH1 competition and commending the university's staff for their excellent support. He emphasized that today's event reflects HTU's dedication to its goals of nurturing a generation of distinguished Jordanian youth capable of making significant contributions across various modern domains. He reaffirmed the university's ongoing commitment to nurturing and enhancing its students' talents.

In conclusion, Team F-35 was announced as the first-place winner, receiving a cash prize of 500 JOD, while Team Golden Eagle secured the second-place position with 300 JOD prize, and Team Appa claimed the best report with 300 JOD. These prizes were generously sponsored by Zain innovation campus (ZINC), the strategic partner for the event.

It is worth mentioning that Sager participated successfully in the event as the technology and consultancy partner, along with Jordan Design and Development Bureau (JODDB) that provided tremendous help in the research and development from the R&D and Innovation Centre.
