HTU and Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Sign Cooperation Agreement to Advance Training in Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency

01/03/2023
HTU and Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Sign Cooperation Agreement to Advance Training in Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency

In line with the training initiatives led by the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Fund (JREEEF) at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR) to support capacity building in renewable energy and energy efficiency, a memorandum of cooperation and partnership was signed today between the JREEEF/MEMR and Al Hussein Technical University (HTU) to empower engineers through specialized training programs across the Kingdom’s governorates.

The memorandum outlines a joint collaboration in scientific and technical fields, particularly in renewable energy and energy efficiency projects and initiatives. It also aims to raise awareness on the optimal use of energy resources and foster the exchange of expertise between the Fund and the University. Under this partnership, training programs developed by the German Energy Academy (GEA) at HTU will be designed and implemented across Jordan to cover sectors supported by JREEEF’s national programs.

The agreement was signed by H.E. Dr. Saleh Al-Kharabsheh, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources and Chairman of JREEEF’s Management Committee, on behalf of the Ministry, and Prof. Ismael Al-Hinti, President of Al Hussein Technical University.

Following the signing, Dr. Al-Kharabsheh emphasized the importance of the memorandum in promoting awareness of renewable energy, encouraging energy conservation, and equipping young graduates and final-year engineering students with the skills and practical experience needed to join the workforce. He further highlighted the significance of engaging youth in implementing JREEEF’s programs and projects—particularly in conducting technical analyses, preparing studies and reports, and carrying out field visits.

Dr. Al-Kharabsheh also expressed his appreciation for the collaboration with the Academy, describing it as a vital step within the Fund’s social responsibility framework to strengthen the national training ecosystem and invest in the future of Jordan’s youth. He reaffirmed that JREEEF continues to work closely with local and international institutions, private sector entities, and donor organizations to implement national programs that advance renewable energy adoption and efficiency measures, thereby generating direct economic and social impact and supporting Jordan’s strategic energy goals.

For his part, Dr. Rasmi Hamzeh, Executive Director of JREEEF, noted that since its establishment, the Fund has been collaborating with international donors to design training programs focused on raising awareness and promoting education in energy efficiency, energy conservation, and renewable energy applications.

Commenting on the occasion, Prof. Al-Hinti expressed his pleasure in signing the memorandum, emphasizing its alignment with HTU’s mission to equip youth with essential and technical skills in modern energy disciplines. He added that collaboration with the Ministry of Energy enhances the quality and relevance of HTU’s academic programs, providing students with hands-on training opportunities that prepare them for the workforce and the future of the energy sector.
