HTU Concludes the Second National Sumo Robotics Championship with Over 150 Teams Participating
Al Hussein Technical University (HTU) concluded the Second National Sumo Robotics Championship, held over two days, July 14 and 15, with the participation of more than 150 teams and over 600 students, representing more than 50 educational institutions across Jordan, including universities, schools, and training centers.
The competition challenged participants to design and program robots that could strategically compete in “sumo-style” matches, emphasizing mechanical design, programming skills, and strategic thinking. Each team presented its robot and tactical approach before a judging panel composed of members from HTU’s academic staff alongside industry and business sector representatives.
In his opening remarks, Prof. Ismael Al-Hinti, President of Al Hussein Technical University, welcomed the participants and attendees, expressing his pride in the outstanding skills demonstrated by HTU students. He emphasized that the championship embodies the university’s mission to empower Jordanian youth in the fields of technology and engineering, enabling them to become globally competitive in an increasingly fast-paced and innovation-driven labor market.
The event was sponsored by Orange Jordan, the Hisham Adeeb Hijjawi Scientific Foundation, MenaITech, Silah, and Boeing, whose support contributed to the success of this national initiative celebrating innovation and technical excellence among Jordan’s youth.
It is worth noting that Al Hussein Technical University, an initiative of the Crown Prince Foundation, is a national, non-profit private university offering a modern applied education model that focuses on developing essential and technical skills in engineering and information technology. The university works to bridge the gap between theoretical learning and practical application, align higher education outcomes with market needs, and foster creativity, innovation, and entrepreneurship among students.
