HTU Concludes the Third National University Debate Championship in Collaboration with the Debate and Thought Foundation
Al Hussein Technical University (HTU), one of the initiatives of the Crown Prince Foundation, concluded the Third National University Debate Championship — the largest university-level debate competition in Jordan — organized in collaboration with the Debate and Thought Foundation.
The championship was attended by representatives from the Qatar Debate Center, including Dr. Hayat Al-Ma’arifi, Executive Director of the Center, Ms. Aisha Al-Nasif, Head of the Education Department, and Ms. Nadia Darwish, trainer and adjudicator at Qatar Debate.
Held at HTU’s campus over four days, the championship brought together teams from 28 Jordanian universities and colleges, offering a dynamic platform for creative competition, critical thinking, and intellectual engagement. Participants debated contemporary issues in Arabic relevant to Jordanian youth, utilizing structured dialogue and persuasive reasoning to propose innovative solutions to modern challenges.
The competition concluded with Middle East University winning the championship title after a compelling final round against Luminus Technical University College.
This year’s championship holds special significance as it serves as a qualifying platform for the International Universities Arabic Debating Championship in Qatar, which will host over 110 teams from 55 countries, mirroring national debate tournaments held across the Arab world in countries such as Kuwait, Oman, Tunisia, Algeria, and Qatar.
In his closing remarks, Prof. Ismael Al-Hinti, President of Al Hussein Technical University, expressed his pride in hosting such a meaningful event, stating that the championship reflects HTU’s commitment to nurturing intellectual growth and critical thinking among Jordanian youth. He added that the vibrant discussions witnessed throughout the tournament highlight the remarkable potential and talent of university students across the Kingdom.
Mr. Abdulrahman Fityani, President of the Debate and Thought Foundation, noted that the championship has become a cultural phenomenon promoting continuous awareness and fostering dialogue, constructive debate, and the development of intellectual and life skills among Jordanian youth from all regions of the country.
The Jordan National University Debate Championship serves as a platform for intellectual enrichment and a training ground for eloquent, solution-oriented speakers, preparing students to engage effectively in a multicultural and rapidly changing world.
