HTU Concludes the Training Camp and Hackathon in the Transportation Sector Using AI
AMMAN – Al Hussein Technical University (HTU) celebrated the successful conclusion of its intensive training bootcamp and hackathon in a ceremony under the patronage of the Minister of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship, with attendance from Ministry Secretary General Ms. Samira Al-Zoubi, Mr. Ahmad Al-Salak, CEO of KBW Smart Solutions, Prof. Ismael Al-Hinti, President of HTU, and H.E. Mazen Taleb, Director of the King Abdullah II Fund for Development.

This initiative was launched as part of a strategic partnership established in a tripartite agreement between HTU, KBW Smart Solutions, and the Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship. The program’s primary goal is to empower young Jordanian talent and enhance their skills through an advanced training bootcamp and hackathon in the fields of data science and artificial intelligence (AI).

Organized by HTU’s Center for Professional Development and Community Outreach, the program began with an intensive training phase designed to prepare students for the hackathon. The training included three core areas: technical skills in data science and AI, entrepreneurial skills, and specialized sessions on the transportation sector in Jordan. Thirty HTU students specializing in data science and AI, computer science, and mechanical engineering were selected to undergo three months of rigorous training.

Throughout the bootcamp, the university hosted numerous discussion sessions, partnering with experts from both public and private sectors in AI, entrepreneurship, and transportation. These sessions helped to identify eight distinct use cases in transportation, forming the basis for the nine participating student teams’ hackathon projects, where they worked to develop innovative AI solutions.

Key stakeholders contributed to the success of the program by supporting the hackathon discussions, mentoring the teams, and serving as judges. Participating institutions included the Greater Amman Municipality, the Transportation Regulatory Commission, SITA, KBW Smart Solutions, the National Center for Crisis Management, Nafith Company, the Public Security Directorate’s Traffic Department, and the King Abdullah II Fund for Development.

The hackathon concluded with five winning teams announced, each awarded a JD 5,000 prize from KBW Smart Solutions to help bring their innovative ideas to fruition.
