This programme was launched in cooperation with the Employment in Jordan 2030 (EJ2030) project implemented by GIZ and commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), in order to train and empower Jordanian women youth on the necessary skills in the information and communication technology, and digital media sectors and network them with local, regional and international companies to create better job opportunities.
The upskilling Program, one of the center of professional development and community outreach programs at HTU, targets graduate of Jordanian universities with degrees in information technology and engineering, and the unemployed, with the aim of training them for a period of three months in technical skills, English language and soft skills. 51 students have been trained in three technical tracks during the past three months, and they completed their projects using different technology under the supervision of experts from the private sector so that they are ready and ready to meet the most important job opportunities available today and start their practical and professional lives.
During the welcoming speech by the President of HTU, Prof. Ismael Al-Hinti, he said that the main endeavor that combines this program and the university is employment, and while the world today offers an infinite number of job opportunities, educational institutions must prepare students to be qualified for these opportunities.
Al-Hinti added that the programs offered were carefully designed to be part of the solution, not the problem, so they were not limited to graduates of HTU, but also included graduates of other universities, young women looking for work. He asserted that the graduates of the program are fully prepared to take their places in the labor market, and they have been preparing for it in the past few months.
Mr. Alexandor Monden, the project manager of GIZ “Employment in Jordan 2030 “implemented project mentioned in the welcoming speech “As one of the challenges in Jordanian Labour Market is the high unemployment among educated women, this program demonstrates its impact not only through closing the skills gap but also proves its effectiveness through translating training into concrete employment options. GIZ is delighted about the cooperation with HTU. We believe that such an intervention should be further scaled up and rolled out on the national level. In order to do so, continuous support from government and the business community is needed.”
