(May 5th, 2023, Sunday) - AMMAN - AlHussein Technical University (HTU) held a dialogue session entitled "Where are we from the rights of students with disabilities in education?" The session was organized to discuss the challenges and opportunities related to ensuring the rights of students with disabilities in education.
The speakers of the session included Hadeel Abu Soufah, activist for the rights of persons with disabilities and inclusion, Ameera Aljamal, activist, and founder of the “Khotwatona” Association to support the rights of people with mental disabilities, and Prof. Ismail AlHinti, President of HTU.
During the session, the speakers highlighted the importance of providing equal opportunities and accessibility for students with disabilities in education. They also discussed the challenges and obstacles that students with disabilities face in pursuing their education and the need to address them.
"Ensuring the rights of students with disabilities in education is not only a moral obligation, but it is also a legal and social responsibility," said Abu Soufah. "We need to work together to create an inclusive and accessible learning environment that supports the success and well-being of all students."
Aljamal shared her personal experience with mental disability and the challenges she faced in accessing education. She stressed the importance of providing mental health support services and accommodations for students with mental disabilities in education.
Hanti emphasized the commitment of HTU to providing equal opportunities and accessibility for all students, including those with disabilities. He highlighted the initiatives that the university is implementing to support students with disabilities, including preparing the univesity's buildings to be accessible and providing assistive technology.
The dialogue session was attended by HTU faculty and students, where the opportunity was provided to exchange ideas and discuss strategies for promoting the rights of students with disabilities in education.
HTU's efforts in organizing this session demonstrate its commitment to creating an inclusive and accessible learning environment that supports the success and well-being of all students.
