The Second National University Debate Championship officially kicked off today at Al Hussein Technical University (HTU), one of the initiatives of the Crown Prince Foundation, in collaboration with the Debate and Thought Foundation.
This year’s championship brings together student teams from 29 Jordanian universities, both public and private, with the participation of 150 students and 81 adjudicators. The event provides a dynamic and constructive platform for undergraduate students from across the Kingdom to engage in intellectual dialogue and exchange ideas within a safe and stimulating environment.
The debates follow the international parliamentary format, encouraging students to explore diverse topics through logical reasoning, critical thinking, and structured argumentation, while embracing the values of respectful dialogue and open-mindedness.
In his opening remarks, Abdulrahman Fityani, President of the Debate and Thought Foundation, encouraged students to embrace this creative form of competition that promotes positive discourse, analytical reasoning, and linguistic and rhetorical skills. He highlighted the role of debate in fostering a culture of dialogue and mutual understanding among young people.
From his side, Prof. Ismael Al-Hinti, President of Al Hussein Technical University, expressed his pride in hosting the championship, noting that such events reflect the university’s commitment to developing students’ personal and life skills, including critical discussion, civil dialogue, and the spirit of healthy competition that encourages self-expression and leadership.
The participating universities include: Jordan University of Science and Technology, Philadelphia University, Jadara University, Jerash Private University, Irbid National University, Al al-Bayt University, Yarmouk University, Ajloun National University, the Arab Open University, Princess Sumaya University for Technology, Al Hussein Technical University, Amman Al-Ahliyya University, Isra University, Al-Balqa Applied University, Applied Science Private University, Middle East University, Al Khwarizmi Technical College, Luminus Technical University College, Zarqa University, Hashemite University, German Jordanian University, Al-Zaytoonah University of Jordan, the American University, the University of Jordan, the World Islamic Sciences and Education University, Aqaba University of Technology, Mutah University, Al-Hussein Bin Talal University, and Tafila Technical University.
The championship underscores HTU’s continuous efforts to promote critical thinking, dialogue, and leadership among Jordanian youth, aligning with its mission to prepare students for active engagement in society and the future workforce.
