HTU Launches Green Hydrogen and Power-to-X (PtX) Skills Development Project in Collaboration with GIZ
Al Hussein Technical University (HTU), represented by its President Prof. Ismael Al-Hinti, has officially launched a new project focused on developing technical and vocational skills in green hydrogen and energy conversion technologies. The project is implemented in cooperation with the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), with support from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK) through the Power-to-X (PtX) Hub initiative.
The project aims to build the technical and professional capacities of engineers and technicians, preparing them for the local and global labor markets while strengthening the workforce in Jordan and the region in the rapidly emerging field of green hydrogen technology.
During a meeting with Ms. Johanna Friese, Country Director of the PtX Hub program in Jordan, Prof. Al-Hinti emphasized the importance of this collaboration, describing it as a strategic milestone in achieving HTU’s mission of enhancing national readiness and workforce development in the green hydrogen sector — one of the most promising industries for future employment in Jordan and the wider region.
He noted that the one-year project will result in the design and delivery of professional training modules covering practical applications of green hydrogen technology. These modules will be developed through a collaborative approach that integrates academic and professional expertise and involves key stakeholders — including policy makers, industry representatives, and technology developers — to ensure that the training outcomes align with actual market and technical needs.
Green hydrogen is increasingly recognized as the “fuel of the future”, with rapid advancements in its production technologies driving potential applications across multiple sectors — including industry, energy, and transportation. Meeting this demand requires a skilled workforce capable of supporting and expanding green hydrogen infrastructure and innovation.
As part of the project’s activities, HTU will host a series of workshops and training sessions within the framework of the German Energy Academy in Jordan, which operates under the university’s umbrella as a partner and supporter of technical capacity-building programs in renewable and sustainable energy.
It is worth noting that Al Hussein Technical University, an initiative of the Crown Prince Foundation, is a national, non-profit private university offering a modern applied education model that enhances essential and technical skills in engineering and technology. The university strives to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application, align higher education outcomes with labor market needs, and foster innovation, creativity, and entrepreneurship among its students.
