HTU Participates in the Jordanian–Kurdish Higher Education Forum in Erbil and Signs Academic Cooperation MoU with Kurdistan Universities

As part of the Jordanian–Kurdish Higher Education Forum – Erbil 2024, Al Hussein Technical University (HTU) participated in the official Jordanian delegation headed by Dr. Mamoun Al-Debei, Secretary General of the Jordanian Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. The delegation also included the President of the Higher Education Accreditation and Quality Assurance Commission, presidents of public and private Jordanian universities, members of the Foreign Student Recruitment Committee of the Higher Education Council, and Jordan’s Consul General in Erbil, Mr. Fuad Al-Majali.

The forum, hosted at Salahaddin University in Erbil and attended by several senior officials from the Kurdistan Ministry of Higher Education, served as a platform for strengthening academic relations and fostering cooperation between Jordanian and Kurdish universities.

During the forum, Al Hussein Technical University, along with other participating Jordanian universities, signed academic and scientific Memoranda of Understanding with several universities in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, particularly in Erbil. Additional MoUs with universities in Sulaymaniyah and Duhok are expected to be signed in the following days, further expanding academic collaboration between the two sides.

The Jordanian–Kurdish Higher Education Forum 2024 was inaugurated on Sunday, May 5, under the patronage of the Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government, Mr. Masrour Barzani, and organized by the Jordanian Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, in cooperation with the Kurdistan Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the Jordan Tourism Board, and the Jordanian Consulate General in Erbil.

The four-day forum, held from May 5 to 8, 2024, featured participation from 21 Jordanian higher education institutions. The event aimed to strengthen academic partnerships, enhance student mobility, and explore joint research opportunities between Jordanian and Kurdish institutions.

Throughout the visit, the Jordanian delegation met with several high-ranking Kurdish officials, including Mr. Masoud Barzani, Prime Minister Masrour Barzani, and Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani, to discuss avenues of academic cooperation and exchange between the two regions.

It is worth noting that Al Hussein Technical University, an initiative of the Crown Prince Foundation, is a national, non-profit private university offering a modern applied education model that enhances essential and technical skills in engineering and technology. The university strives to bridge the gap between theoretical learning and practical application, align education outcomes with labor market needs, and foster innovation, creativity, and entrepreneurship among its students.
