In the Presence of Princess Rajwa bint Ali, HTU Presents Student Projects on Sustainable Urban Planning for Fuheis

Amman — In the presence of Her Highness Princess Rajwa bint Ali bin Nayef, H.E. Dr. Yousef Al Shawarbeh, Chairman of the Greater Amman Municipality Committee, Dr. Faten Al-Ziyadat, Primary School Principal at Amman Baccalaureate School, representing Her Royal Highness Princess Sumaya bint El Hassan, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of Amman Baccalaureate School, Eng. Imad Al-Hiyari, Chairman of the Fuheis Municipality Committee, and Eng. Omar Al-Maani, Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Al Hussein Technical University, Al Hussein Technical University held a community meeting in the city of Fuheis to present projects developed by Built Environment Engineering students as part of the Principles of Sustainable Urban Planning course.The meeting was held as part of HTU’s approach to linking applied education with real-world challenges, while providing students with the opportunity to present planning visions that can be discussed, developed, and refined. These visions were grounded in the principles of sustainability and the preservation of the built environment, while strengthening students’ engagement with the local community and stakeholders concerned with urban planning and development.During the meeting, students presented their planning concepts for part of the green belt located between Amman Governorate and Balqa Governorate. The projects explored potential development approaches within a vision that preserves the area’s environmental and urban value, while taking into consideration its local identity and the needs of the surrounding community. The proposals reflected the students’ understanding of sustainable urban planning principles, including resource management, public spaces, spatial connectivity, quality of life, and the protection of the natural and built fabric.The meeting also served as a platform for dialogue between students and attendees, where ideas and proposals were presented and discussed, reinforcing the importance of involving the local community in the educational process. This engagement supported learning outcomes by connecting academic knowledge with practical application and real community needs.HTU emphasized that such meetings reflect its mission to prepare students capable of addressing urban and environmental development challenges through a scientific and applied approach. They also contribute to building students’ professional awareness of the role of sustainable planning in serving cities and communities.This activity comes as part of the university’s efforts to promote project-based learning and expand students’ exposure to real-world environments, reinforcing the role of technical and applied education in providing innovative and responsible solutions to developmental and environmental challenges in Jordan.
