International Labour Organization (ILO) and AlHussien Technical University (HTU) Sign an Agreement to Support Young Jordanians and Syrians

(18 January 2023, Wednesday) - Amman - The International Labour Organization (ILO) and AlHussien Bin Abdullah Technical University (HTU) have signed a cooperation agreement to implement an innovation and entrepreneurship training program for young Jordanians and Syrians.
This program, Innovation & Entrepreneurship Training for Young Jordanians & Syrians in Jordan, will provide participants with a blend of technical training, guidance on career and business development, and access to key resources that will support their entrepreneurial endeavors, and it is under ILO Program of Support (POS) for the Crisis Response, the project is funded by the Bureau of Population, Refugees and Migration of the US Department of State (PRM).
The agreement was signed by Prof. Ismail Al-Hinti on behalf of AlHussein Technical University, and Mr. Qais Qatamin on behalf of the International Labor Organization. This was in the presence of several administrative bodies of the two parties.
During the meeting, Hinti expressed his satisfaction with the agreement, highlighting his belief in the capabilities of youth and their potential to find innovative solutions to national problems through increased participation in various institutions and decision-making positions. He also noted the importance of the ILO as a strategic partner and the university's commitment to keeping a productive partnership with them.
For his part, Mr. Qais Qatamin, the Chief Technical Adviser to ILO programme of Support to the Crisis Response, emphasized that Al-Hussein Technical University's ambitious vision was the driving force behind the agreement and the ILO will take all necessary steps to empower Jordanian and Syrian youth in the modern job market and achieve its goals.
It is worth noting that HTU is one of the initiatives of the Crown Prince Foundation. It is a non-profit, private Jordanian national university that provides an educational model that enhances basic and technical skills in the various engineering fields required for the labor market. It mainly seeks to reduce the gap between theoretical knowledge and applications. The process, and the promotion of the spirit of initiative and the creative and intellectual energies of students. The university also works to serve the local community by providing training programs targeting university students looking for work. It also works to inform and expand the perceptions of school students from various governorates in the Jordan on the latest scientific and practical specializations required in the labor market.
While the ILO Programme of Support to the Jordan Compact (POS) is Established in 2016, and responds to ongoing labour market challenges exacerbated by the conflict in Syria through development-focused and employment-driven interventions to create an enabling environment for decent work and job creation.
The project “Formalizing Access to the Legal Labour Market for Refugees and Host Communities in Jordan (Phase IIII)” is funded by the US Department of State's Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration (US PRM), and it aims to enhance Jordanian and refugee job seekers’, access to the formal labour market and decent work through the provision of training and certification, business development support, employment services and facilitating work permits.
