Jad Al-Sunna, Aya Moussa, Darren Habash.. Three international scholarships

The International Society of Energy Engineers recently published the names of the students who received its various grants from around the world. As is customary for Al-Hussein Technical University students, three students from the university's Energy Engineering Department have received three unique scholarships this year: Jad Al Sunna, Aya Mousa, and Dareen Habash.

Jad Sunna received the top international scholarship prize for 2022 (Al Thumann Award), one of three awards in its category, and he is the first person in the world to get it. Aya Musa was awarded the highest scholarship award in 2022 (the Ruth Whitlock Award), which is the only award in its category. Dareen Habash was awarded one of six International Scholarship Awards 2022 by the Council for Women in Energy and Environmental Leadership (CWEEL), a branch of the Society of Energy Engineers (AEE).

It is also worth noting that these three students are members of the Society of Energy Engineers branch at Al-Hussein Technical University, which is led by student Dana Ibrahim, which recently won the prize for the best social media campaign for the student branch.

In an interview with student Sanna about his experience at Al-Hussein Technical University, he stated that what most impressed him when he first arrived was the education system, which places a strong emphasis on real-world experience, which is the basis of any seeker's ability to enter the labor market.

He went on to say that what helps the learner thrive and seize possibilities here is the truly cooperative academic staff, which brings the student so close to his teacher that it removes all barriers to asking guidance or assistance, or even cooperating in a research project. These research projects were similar to those Sunna worked on with one of his mentors, Dr. Imad Abdel Salam, as part of the Merg team, which enabled him later to work on three conference papers in a short amount of time.

Furthermore, Sunna collaborated with a team of his colleagues on a prototype within one of his specialization courses to solve the problem of the difficulty of finding parking spaces in overcrowded cities, by using the smartphone to find vacant positions and reserve them until the car arrives, in exchange for a monetary reservation period.

In another conversation, Mousa stated that the first thing that drew her to Al-Hussein Technical University was its position in Al-Hussein Business Park, as it is the only university in Jordan and the globe that is surrounded by such a huge number of prominent business enterprises. This is in addition to the university's unusual strategy and approach to graduating exceptional cohorts of young women and men capable of making a difference in the labor market.

Mousa mentioned a wide range of activities she has worked on at the university over the past few years, including designing a virtual prototype for integrating Blockchain technology into the energy sector with a team of her colleagues, accompanied by a comprehensive study of the core ideas behind blockchain technology, including Systems Designs and Distributed Consensus Techniques in Jordan. She has also worked independently on the Implementing Blockchains in the Energy Sector project as part of her specialized courses, attending a number of conferences and publishing published papers with the Merg team.

Mousa's team also earned first place in the IREX Global Solutions 2021 Sustainability Challenge for Paragon, which contributes to a food waste management and supply chain communication solution leveraging Blockchain technology. She also won the Boeing Student Project competition with her team for the project "Hybrid Renewable Energy System using Photovoltaic (PV) and Cooling Tower (CT) Technologies."

During our last conversation, Habash mentioned her fear of her first year at Al-Hussein Technical University, a new educational institution, but she was certain of her choice after her first year when she noticed the tangible differences between her and the students of other universities in many aspects, such as presentations, writing reports and research, different courses and study plans, and even soft skills.

She also mentioned the numerous opportunities that the university was able to provide for students, such as the research grant that she and her colleague Mousa received at the University of Bradford in the United Kingdom, which enabled them to gain more research, personal, and even cognitive skills in areas outside their field of specialization in energy engineering. In addition to her participation in the IREX Global Solutions 2021 Sustainability Challenge winning team.

Habash and her team also won the Boeing Student Project Competition, which provided them with funds to create a prototype for a "Hybrid Renewable Energy System with Combined PV Plant and Cooling Tower."

At the end of their speech, the three students praised the efforts of their industrial sector teachers as well as the administrative staff at the university, and specifically mentioned the work of Eng. Samer Al-Zawaideh, who played a significant role in directing their energies toward the right path they are on today.

With this quest, the university's students are heading towards true success in their scientific and practical lives, where their goals are realized and Al-Hussein Technical University's goal of being the site where its outstanding learners create their future is realized.
