Hello!Bonjour – 你好Merhaba – مرحبًا- Ciao - HalloThe department currently offers streams in English, Arabic, French, Chinese, German, Italian and Turkish. The English language courses develop students’ abilities in speaking, reading, writing, and listening, while focusing on specialized technical lexical items. The course levels are comprised of Pre-Foundation, Pre-Intermediate, Intermediate, Upper Intermediate, and Advanced.Arabic courses currently consist of Remedial Arabic and Arabic and Communication Skills. We also provide an Arabic calligraphy course. French courses consist of Remedial French, French Level One and French Level Two.The other language streams assume students are coming to the courses with no prior knowledge and they focus on a communicative approach to develop skills in speaking, listening, reading, and writing. A functional ability in one of these languages, along with mastery of English and native Arabic, prepare students for the global workplace, whether in Jordan or abroad.On behalf of HTU, the Department of Languages is currently working to develop and strengthen our relationships with a number of international and national partners, such as the Institut Français, The Confucius Institute at Philadelphia University (Amman), Goethe Institut, Instituto Cervantes, Yunus Emre Institute, The British Council, and the US Embassy’s Regional Office of the English Language.In coordination with our partner university, Clarion University of Pennsylvania, in the US, the department has established a conversation program that permits students to enhance their English speaking and listening skills. There are also a number of activities with other universities that are incorporated into the curriculum: video/writing exchanges with universities in Morocco, guest lectures from visiting faculty, language day events, among others. The department also contributes to continuing education in upskilling programs.
